COP 22/23 - Report - Side 48
SCOPE 2
HORN BASELINE – SCOPE 2: SVARENDE TIL 101 TCO2E
STRATEGY - EL
Total emissions
139 tCO2e calculated through the location-based method3
(equivalent to 100% of scope 2). This is an increase to last
years 101 tCO2e, and caused by the building process of
app. 5000 sqm. new production facilities, which began
medio 2022, and furthermore the movement of Denwood by
HORN to a bigger site.
With the location-based method, HORN will follow the
general decrease in CO2 emissions in connection with the
expansion of CO2 saving solutions (See ”Climate status and
projection, 2023”4 p. 66, section 8.1 regarding projection
of emission factor for electricity: It is expected that electricity
in Denmark will be CO2 neutral in 2030).
STRATEGY - DISTRICT HEATING
Total emissions:
0 tCO2e in the baseline year. Note included due to potential transition in early 2024 (latest update, Aulum Fjernvarme
a.m.b.a.)
When switching to district heating, the emission factor for heating will decrease from the emission on Gas (comparatively
higher) to the district heating company’s emissions. However,
cf. ”Climate status and projection, 2023”, there is an expectation of a decrease of 99% CO2 emissions from district
heating towards 2030.
Other considerations regarding transition to district heating:
1. Economically, there is an expectation of cheaper supply
due to a.m.ba.
2. The local community will be benefited collectively by the
transition to district heating.
Correction in financial year 2021-22: The method has changed from market-based to location-based, this is due to a strengthened overview of the real development in the electricity grid’s emissions as well as a merger with Denwood by HORN, which has not previously purchased Guarantees of Origin (GOs) /
green certificates at the location. The reporting in the baseline year is aligned with the emissions from the location-based methodology. Current procurement
of green certificates will cease by 2024, with consideration given to procurement of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). PPAs are considered more effective
instruments in the green transition than GOs, as PPAs ensure the expansion of additional capicity of ”green power”.
