4.3 QUALITY FORTHE ENVIROMENTStart taking actionNo waste policyAs catchy as the phrase may be, we need to take it seriously: ‘There is no planet B’.When establishing quality for the environment, we simplyneed to start taking action. There is no time for discussion onbest practice, but there is steep learning curve, and we constantly need to readjust and improve our actions. We knowthat, because what we thought and were taught, were theright solution just five years ago, is no longer enough, whenwe say our vision is completely green. The following are our current thoughts on what is quality forthe environment. While we can optimize sizes and cuts to avoid a lot ofspare elements, and teach the end user how to ensure thattheir product will last ages, requiring a challenge to currentconsumption patterns, service and our schooling of maintenance processes? We cannot avoid waste at some point, butwe can transform trash to treasure. We therefore believe ourwork at Denwood by HORN makes the biggest difference, why we increasingly will be looking into how we can designupcycled products from our countertop waste material andpotentially establish take-back solutions.CO2 StrategyImplementing a data-driven decision making process to ourCO2 action plans, have given us 3 years of overview aboutour emissions. We now know, that we have several milestones on the road to reach our vision, of becoming a climatepositive manufacturer – But we also have a clear strategyand plan on how to remove our CO2 emissions and notleast a relevant solution to how we might actually store CO2as well.Simultaneously we will start implementing more upcycledmaterial in our countertops, a process which as an exampleinclude our laminate products, which is of high relevancycause to a high demand and low possibility for upcycling. Therefore we have started to look into, how we can lowerthe amount of core material, and potentially how we mayproduce our own 100% upcycled core.We furthermore applied for the (SBTI), Science Based TargetInitiative, to ensure that our actions are third party validated.“40There is no planet B“
