COP 22/23 - Report - Side 50
3 GREAT NEWS
1. PRESENTING OUR BIO-BOARD
COOPERATION
1
It’s official! During the last 3 years we have been working
with Søren Jensen A/S (consulting engineering firm) and
SLETH (architectural bureau) on a project, which we hope
will enable a more sustainable building and manufacturing
process for core products in the building industry.
The bio-board (name in progress) has made it to our final
approval test, and are now undergoing product certification
tests before we launch it as an alternative to our existing
core materials. The benefits of the bio-board are that it can
upcycle various agricultural waste (like stems from rapeseed,
hemp etc.), it is regenerative and made with a bio-binder,
entirely without resins and is therefore biodegradable.
2. WE ARE B CORP CERTIFIED!
We are proud to announce that HORN is officially B Corp
certified, with a total score of 94.9.
With the B Corp certification it has been verified that HORN
meets high standards and are ambitious within social and
environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
It has been an intense process through 16 months, where
we went through every little part of our business and value
chain, providing evidence for all our actions. While being a
tough process it was all worth it, since it has given us a broader insight in which areas can be improved.
2
The certification is an important milestone for HORN in our
quest to become even more responsible in our daily work.
Furthermore, it is an honor to be a part of this exclusive movement, where we all work together in the goal of transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities,
and the planet.
3. NEW STONE PRODUCTION FACILITIES
With an ambition of ensuring three focal areas, being: Working Environment, sustainability and atomization we were finally
able to open our own production facilities for stone based surfaces during June 2023! The insourcing of production of stone
based material have been undergoing many years of considerations, research and planning, and we are so happy for the result where the areas are well represented.
Working environment: As we know that stone handling typically requires heavy and potentially dangerous lifts “safety first”
quickly became our mantra. To avoid manual lifts we have therefore installed lifting equipment all over the production area, while the optimum flow to minimize unnecessary lifts furthermore have designed.
Sustainability: Producing stone based material is typically a water heavy unit, which by no means are conform with our overall
sustainability strategy. Therefore we have installed a 50 cubic meter tank to collect rainwater, while furthermore recirculating
and cleaning water to minimize water use in general. When producing stone, it is generally accepted that 30-40% of the raw
material is scrapped – We simply won’t accept that, and are looking into implementing stone to our Denwood by HORN setup.
3
Automization: We are a Danish manufacturer – And we aim to stay that way! We are competing with lower waged countries
when it comes to stone manufacturing, why we have been very aware to install the most modern and efficient machinery, that
are handled by trained specialist to ensure a minimum of manual work.
