The following list offers a selection of suggested further reading, videos, interesting articles and
online quizzes that you might like to use with your class. These resources have all been created by
third parties, so you might like to view each one before sharing them with the class. In particular,

Get acquainted with the syllabus. When reading through the syllabus, take special note of the
assessment objectives, grade descriptions and the papers that make up the examination. You
may wish to use the scheme of work (SOW) provided to help you draw up your own SOW.
You may want to change the order in which you teach the topics outlined in the SOW. For
instance, you might want to teach the topic on ‘Accounting principles’ right at the start, as
mention is made about some of the principles such as the prudence and matching principle in
many of the chapters preceding Chapter 26 on accounting principles. The SOW mentions the
approximate time each topic will require. This is just a rough guide based on expectations laid
out by the syllabus. Your SOW should be flexible enough to allow for some tweaking of the
time allocated to each topic. Remember to leave some time for revision before the mock exams
as well as before the final examinations. Your SOW will help you determine what resources
you will require to deliver the course and this in turn will help you to build up teaching,
learning and reference resources such as worksheets.
Go through the list of resources provided. Many of them can be used as a part of your lessons
and you may want to devise strategies to do this. There are also suggestions for starter activities
and articles that can help you gain a better insight into the various topics.
Obtain a login from your examinations officer to enable you to access past papers and other
resources on the Cambridge International website, including the syllabus and a discussion
forum. You may want to download the Example Candidate Response booklets to give you and
your students an insight into good examination techniques. In fact, this booklet could be a good
class exercise in peer-marking, to help students prepare for examinations. Examiners’ reports
are also a good resource to help you avoid the many pitfalls that students and, sometimes,
teachers can fall into. This teacher guide will be covering some of these, but you may find it
useful to supplement this with your own research. The mark schemes provided will also help
you guide your students to make the best use of their time during an examination. The
discussion forum is like a virtual staffroom – you can discuss your problems and ideas and gain
some insights into how other teachers tackle the parts of the syllabus that are especially
difficult.
The worksheets provided will help you in your assessments. They can also be used as a guide
to devise your own worksheets. The crossword site provided is a good resource to help you
draw up your own crossword puzzles, which can be an enjoyable, different and useful revision
tool for definitions and concepts. Please check URLs before using them. Web addresses do
change from time to time and you need to know in advance what you will be accessing.
An examination guide is provided to help students prepare for their examinations. You may
want to run through this with them before their internal and external examinations.
Planning the course
Planning could include long-term planning (SOW) and short-term planning (lesson plans).
