EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT
COWORKER ENGAGEMENT SURVEY
EMPLOYEE CAREER ADVANCEMENT
In 2023, we acted upon improvement opportunities
identified in our 2022 employee engagement survey.
These included increasing communication frequency
from senior leadership, expanding career growth
and development opportunities and enhancing
the efficiency of our coworkers by identifying and
streamlining or discontinuing processes that had
become cumbersome or obsolete. Going forward, we
will conduct the survey biennially to continuously
gather feedback and identify opportunities for
enhancing the overall workplace experience.
Highwoods has consistently demonstrated a
commitment to individual career growth. Our robust
professional development program encourages
ongoing education and professional growth through
the following:
• Conducting annual career conversations with
all employees
• Supporting internships and mentorship programs
• Encouraging participation in continuing
education opportunities
• Assisting with obtaining industry accreditations such
as LEED, Fitwel, AEE, CCIM and BOMA
• Facilitating internal training sessions on programs
and initiatives
• Providing leadership, management and technical
learning opportunities
Through these initiatives, nearly one-third of our
current employees have experienced significant career
advancement during their time at Highwoods. We strive
to foster an environment that instills an “ownership”
mentality throughout our company, empowering
employees to continually seek new and improved ways
of conducting business.

REALM (Reinforce, Encourage, Advise, Listen, Motivate) is a
mentorship program offered to Highwoods employees, by Highwoods
employees. Introduced in September 2023, this year-long program
includes coworkers with a broad range of skill sets, experience levels,
and disciplines. In our inaugural class, more mentors applied than
mentees, so we are able to match each mentee with a mentor who
best supported their desired areas of growth.
