At DTU, students
don’t have to
choose between
education and the
entrepreneurial
dream
The tech entrepreneur programme at
DTU gives students both a master’s
degree and the opportunity to work on
their startup.
For some, a university degree gives them
peace of mind about their career. Others are

willing to throw everything to the side and
pursue the dream of founding a startup.
But at DTU, you can do both at the same
time. Since 2019, the MSc in Technology
Entrepreneurship has been developing,
incubating and educating both entrepreneurs and their startups.
“We realized that many of the entrepreneurial students both here at DTU and at
other educational institutions were often
faced with the choice of continuing their
studies or dropping out to become entrepreneurs. And so the idea of a master’s
program was born,” says Thor Rigtrup
Larsen, Programme Manager for DTU
Entrepreneurship.
Through the program, students get the
opportunity to work both practically and
academically with their own startup. In
addition, they become part of the DTU
ecosystem with unique access to leading
researchers, funding, accelerators, sparring and mentors.
“We give students two years to focus
on their startup. It’s not simulated, it’s
protected. The students don’t run the
same risk because they are within the
education system. And most of them
leave with both a master’s degree and a
startup under their arm,” explains Thor
Rigtrup Larsen.
Research shows that diversity in the
team provides one of the best foundations
for a startup. Therefore, it is important for
DTU to encourage all types of students to
apply for the master’s program.
“We are very interested in how the
future is shaped and how we can make a
difference. That’s why we bring together
people with all kinds of different backgrounds, but who have one thing in common: the hunger to create scalable tech
companies for the bene昀椀t of people and
the world.” says Thor Rigtrup Larsen.
