REGULATION
(EU)2016/425
The PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 replaces the PPE
Directive 89/686/EEC from April 2018
Risk Assessments
Certified Technical Workwear
Employers have a duty to perform a Risk Assessment in
relation to Occupational Health & Safety Legislation and
these can be categorised into 3 key areas:
There are 3 categories in the PPE Regulation that apply
to the Technical Workwear we produce:
•
Hazard Identification – identify the risk factors that
have the potential to cause harm.
•
Risk Analysis and Evaluation – analyse and
evaluate the risk associated with a hazard.
•
Risk Control – determine ways to eliminate the
hazard or control the risk if the hazard cannot be
eliminated.
Risk assessment is the overall process that covers all
three of these key areas and where the risk cannot be
entirely eliminated the use of PPE (Personal Protective
Equipment) shall be provided and used for the task in
hand. Employers shall properly analyse and evaluate
these risks to establish what performance levels and
functionality is required in any PPE that shall be selected
and specified for the task in hand.
•
Category I - Low risk of injury (e.g. rain protection
EN343)
•
Category II - Risk of injury (e.g. EN ISO 11612
A, B, C Heat and Flame)
•
Category III - High risk of injury (e.g. Arc IEC 61482,
Molten Metal EN ISO 11612 D, E)
Module D Production
We operate a production quality control monitoring
system for 100% inspection according to the
requirements of any company producing garments that
are classed as Category III. This system is referred to as
Module D (previously known as 11B or 11A).
CE Marking of PPE
Care Label
PPE that is produced for the European
market must be labelled with the CE mark,
and manufacturers and distributors must
ensure that products they manufacturer or
distribute comply with the necessary legal requirements.
The CE mark indicates that a Notified Body has CE Type
examined the garments according to the PPE Regulation
(EU)2016/425 or PPE Directive 89/868/EEC. A copy of
the Certification and Declaration of Conformity is also
available for each PPE product sold.
As a general rule, our Technical
Workwear is certified in accordance
to either Category II or Category III
requirements. All must display the
CE mark and garments classified as
Category III garments are also labelled with additional
numbers after the CE mark (e.g. CE0194) - the numbers
indicating the Notified Body that is responsible for the
auditing of the production.
Information Symbol
The ‘i’ icon is displayed on the care label of a CE marked
product and indicates that there is additional information
contained within the packaging or attached to the
product – usually in the form of a User Information Sheet.
This information must be read before you use your PPE
as it contains vital details about how your product should
be used/worn in order to provide optimal protection. It
also contains information regarding Limitations of Use.
