Auto Theft Unit
Capital City Command Center (C4)
The Capital City Command Center (C4) is a real-time crime intelligence center based out of the Vice, Intelligence,
and Narcotics Division. Staffed by civilian Crime Analysts and Detectives, C4 leverages technology resources to
assist officers in their investigations, particularly related to violent crime. Their technology resources include the
Citywide Camera Project and ShotSpotter. The work of C4 enhances everything from finding causation in minor
car crashes to homicide investigations.
In 2020, C4 handled over 5800 requests for service, including over 2600 video searches. The Capital City Command Center has been crucial in solving many serious crimes that otherwise would have gone unsolved.
ShotSpotter System
ShotSpotter is a system of acoustic sensors positioned throughout the city that detect and alert police to gunfire
in real time. In 2020 the ShotSpotter system recorded 1935 total activations. The ShotSpotter system has shown to
accelerate police response, provide rapid victim aid, and enhance investigations.
The Auto Theft Unit (ATU)
works to recover stolen vehicles
and apprehend the offenders
who are involved in the increase
of stolen vehicle incidents in
the Greater Hartford area. Incidents of robbery, shots fired,
shootings, and homicides often
involve stolen vehicles. The ATU
works in conjunction with other investigative units, assisting
in identifying, locating and apprehending known violent and
dangerous car thieves. The ATU
also works closely with the Connecticut State Police, Statewide Auto Theft Task Force, and surrounding towns to combat the regional auto theft
problem.
