Relationships are central to our success at Hartford Manor. This charter outlines
the specific ways in which we actively ensure positive engagement.

Getting to know them and their family
Letting them know we like them - Notice them- meet and greet them
Creating a sense of belonging
Showing kindness and modelling the interactions we expect from them
Being fair and open- explaining why - Building trust, openness, honesty
Listening to every child and understanding their emotions
Having a consistent approach to relational practice
Appreciating individuality and uniqueness- Aim for children to feel confident
and have self-belief
Being their advocate
Having high expectations- be aspirational- tell them when they have done
something well- specific praise
Treating them as we’d want our own children to be treated

Staff at Hartford Manor build relationships with parents by:
• Open and honest communication, ideally face to face
• Making connections possible- Zoom, Teams, Face to Face, Tapestry
• Regular positive contact, celebrations, sharing positive news, finding and
focussing on positives/ giving feedback
• Raising concerns promptly - Inviting parents in/open-door policy -Listening to
and respecting views
• Offering advice/strategies to support behaviour and learning
• Reassurance- give time to parents with patience and understanding
• Going above and beyond – e.g. follow up phone call or conversation
• Knowing the whole child- home and school- Caring about the family as a whole
• Being relatable/human- showing empathy, treating parents as we’d want to be
treated
• Team approach towards looking after children- nurture their child like our own
• Showing that we like/want the best for the child
