INTERVIEW
Manfred
Sandbichler
Hankook Director Motorsport
How happy are you with the first year in Formula E
for the Hankook iON Race?
“Our conclusion is a very positive one. The Hankook iON
Race has established itself in Formula E and has been
fully accepted. It behaves exactly as was requested prior
to the start of the season. The Hankook iON Race has
impressed across the board – and in a diverse range of
conditions: in a cool eight degrees in Mexico and a
scorching track temperature of 60 degrees in Rome, in
the rain of Berlin and the dust of India, and obviously on
a wide range of surfaces. The performance was always
there. It is particularly worth emphasising that we did
not have a single product-related puncture all season.”

How does the tyre meet the sustainability demands

“In many ways. The Hankook iON Race is made of roughly 30 percent sustainable material. And that in factories
certified for their high degree of sustainability. After the
race weekends, we collect the tyres and have them all

call upon different tyre specifications, as they are in
other motorsport series. There is just one variant, which
is used in both dry and wet conditions. That allows us to
save more resources. Plus, the long durability of the tyre
is also a pioneering step. Every team receives just two
sets of tyres for practice, qualifying and the race. In the
