The new Hankook iON
impresses in its rooki
Hankook has been the new and official technical partner
and tyre supplier of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship since Season 9. Developed from scratch, the new
“Hankook iON Race” meets the sustainability needs of the
global, fully-electric racing series and the future of E-mobility. “The philosophy of the Hankook brand and our strategic alignment towards an increasingly sustainable future
are in line with the spirit and DNA of Formula E. Together,
we will drive and have a significant influence on the
development of modern motorsport,” said Sooil Lee, President & CEO Hankook Tire & Technology, on the company’s
entry into Formula E.
Hankook implemented the specifications of Formula E
perfectly: roughly 30 percent of the new tyre is made of
sustainable materials. There is only one tyre variant, which
is used in both dry and wet conditions, in order to save
more resources. The long durability of the tyre is another
pioneering step. Furthermore, all sets of Hankook tyres
were, and still are, completely recycled after race weekends.

It is particularly important to stress that not a single
product-related puncture was recorded in the whole of
Season 9. The Hankook iON Race always emphatically
demonstrated its quality and reliability in the most diverse
conditions – whether wet or dry, hot or cold, rough or
smooth, dusty or clean track conditions. It was also possible to save valuable energy, thanks to the low roll
resistance. This is confirmed by the praise lauded upon the
tyre by driver Nico Müller from the ABT Cupra Formula E
Team: “The tyre is totally reliable. I am really impressed
how well it performs in all conditions.”
The Hankook iON Race also impressed visually. Particularly at the events in Mexico, Monaco, Italy and Great Britain. Here, Hankook treated fans to the iON Race with
colourful tread grooves in the company colours of Hankook
Orange and iON Blue. “We are thrilled that the coloured
accents, which symbolise performance and energy efficiency, are so well received by the fans, drivers and teams,”
says Manfred Sandbichler, Hankook Director Motorsport.
