MaineCare
at The Landing at Saco Bay
MaineCare is a social assistance program
that administers federal funding through
the state and helps to pay for living and care
expenses. People with disabilities or people
over age 65 who do not have enough money
to pay for medical care, home care, assisted
living care, or nursing home care may qualify.
Eligibility is tied to income levels. There are
many specific rules regarding home
ownership and the amount of assets held by
a couple or an individual seeking to qualify
for MaineCare. The rules are complex. The
official MaineCare Eligibility Manual is
available online. However, it is complicated
reading, and we recommend professional
advice after reading that basic advice.
A social worker or our sales counselor can
also help you understand if you qualify for
MaineCare.
The simple truth is that there will never be
enough MaineCare beds in assisted living
and memory care communities to meet the
need in our state. This is why it is infinitely
better to plan well in advance before you
are in a crisis.

Personalized Memory Care
The Landing at Saco Bay allows the use of
MaineCare in three basic ways:
FIRST -- When residents move into our
community and pay privately, at some point
they will run out of funds. This is when they
will qualify for MaineCare. As soon as we have
availability, we offer those residents
MaineCare as the payor for their living and
care expenses.
SECOND -- If a senior is looking to move to
our community and is otherwise qualified,
and already know they will qualify for
MaineCare, but can pay privately for two years,
often with family assistance, we may be able
to offer them admission. We do this with the
agreement that they can access Maine Care
after the two years is over, as long as they still
qualify for MaineCare.
THIRD -- Occasionally, we may be able to offer
a senior the ability to come directly into our
community with MaineCare as the payor
source. That is rare and depends on how
many available apartments we have and
many other factors. We are happy to be able
to offer this assistance to our families.
