1 Enjoy reading the Gospel
After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples for the
third time. The disciples had been out fishing and as soon as
they came ashore they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish on
it, and bread. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.”
After the meal Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John,
do you love me more than these others do?”He answered,
“Yes, Lord, you know I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my
lambs.” A second time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do
you love me?” He replied, “Yes, Lord, you know I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Look after my sheep.” Then he said to him
a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter said,
“Lord, you know everything; you know I love you.” Jesus said
to him, “Feed my sheep.”

“Dear
Dear young people, Jesus is counting on you to be his
2 friends and witnesses to his infinite love.”
love.

What was Peter’s reply to Jesus’ questions? What three things did Jesus tell
Peter to do? Peter had denied knowing Jesus three times before the crucifixion.
But now Jesus gives Peter the chance to say he loves him three times - preparing
Peter to lead the Church. From this point onwards, St Peter’s life witnessed to the
truth about Jesus. Ask your child what the word ‘witness’ means to them. Who has
recently brought the message of Jesus to your child? Who does your child know
to be a great witness for Jesus?

St Peter gave witness to what Jesus did and who Jesus really was. Because of
his witness, many people came to know and follow Jesus. Through our words,
actions and through the power of the Holy Spirit, we too can be God’s witnesses,
through living our lives the way Jesus shows us. Choose a special way to be Jesus’
witnesses – sharing and showing God’s love to everyone you meet in this coming
week. Perhaps you can: be kind and loving in your simple everyday words and
actions; be a peacemaker; pray and ask God to make you a good witness.
Dear Lord Jesus, please
help us to be your
witnesses by our love,
so that others will come
to know the joy of
knowing you. Amen.
