Y6 Maths Lesson Plan
Incredible Creatures
This lesson plan covers a range of national curriculum objectives for year 6, to support a unit of work
focusing on converting measurements. However, it could be adapted to use with younger or older
learners.
We recommend you read through the plan carefully and adapt it to suit the needs of your learners,
considering how many sessions you’ll need to effectively cover each element. You may wish to expand on
one or more areas in the plan or extend the practical task over more than one day. You might even choose
to devote a day to the project and supplement this activity with other Guinness World Records activities.
Although helpful, you do not need a copy of any Guinness World Records books to be able to teach this
lesson.
The symbols used in this lesson plan and in the lesson presentation
indicate suggestions for partner work and group work.
