Seeing No. 124 Brighton all the way through from initial designs to completion
must be an incredible feeling. What’s your favourite part of the process?
Our favourite part of the design process is curating initial concepts and developing
these into mood boards, etc. Being able to research the city that we are moving
into is a huge part of our process. We spend a long time doing this research and it’s
important that we immerse ourselves into the heart and mind of each city. That
‘coming to realisation’ towards the end of each project is also super rewarding as well.
Seeing your designs come to life at the end is really beautiful. And as a team we’re
great at executing our initial concepts, true to where they started from.
What’s been a challenge in the process of designing No. 124?
One thing that can be difficult is working with vintage pieces. It’s a big part of the
GuestHouse ethos, to put life back into really beautiful vintage furniture, art and
pieces. Restoring them can sometimes come with challenges. We can buy the most
beautifully shaped sofa, but you might start uncovering woodworm. It’s then all about
trying to adapt and adjust to make it work. But we’ve ended up with some really
beautiful vintage pieces. We’ve gone to a lot of antique fairs this time around, A LOT,
almost one a week, to collect pieces and discover little treasures.
