The many wonders of Margate
From one seaside city in the south to another trendy town on the southeast coast... Margate is a real coastal gem and the
hip, hop, happening town has well and truly up-and-came. Much like Brighton, Margate has a real nostalgic feel; the town’s
golden sands are always dotted with families enjoying the sun and sea. But the town is the place to be all year round, offering
up all things seaside serenity and quirky quiet in the chillier months too.
Just one thing that makes Margate so magic is its artistic heritage. From Turner to Emin, Margate is home (or has been
home) to an abundance of talented creators. Spend just one day in Margate and you’ll find it’s easy to see how the town
inspires so many creatives. And who knows, its artistic flair might brush off on you too. Strolls around the cobbled streets
of the Old Town will take your eyes on a journey across the rainbow, with bric-a-brac building fronts a real kaleidoscope of
colour. The Old Town is beautifully bestowed with specialty shops, cool cafés, impressive independents, bustling bars and all
kinds of restaurants serving the freshest seafood and more (including Pearly Cow of course!). The Old Kent Market and the
variations of vintage clothes shops are a must-visit for those hunting something really special and unique.
In the Old Town you’ll also find galleries-galore, including the Turner Contemporary Gallery, which hosts a rolling programme
of temporary exhibitions, events and activities as well as always-in-place works by leading contemporary artists and
designers.
On the other side of town: the wonders of Dreamland, with many popular events all through the year, child-like fun in the
arcades and of course, walks on the beach (where skies at dusk can be even more magnificent in the low seasons than in
summer!). And all that before you’ve even stepped inside No. 42...
