She foundthe company’s work aligned withher environmental principles. “Itwas just me and a senior biologistin Prince George,” says Goodrich,an intermediate biologist. Now,she is Western Canada regionalchampion, their team hasexpanded to 12 employees and it’scontinuing to grow.GHD is a leading Australiafounded company operating in theglobal markets of water, energyand resources, environment,property and buildings, andtransportation. Her work inthe field doing plant and ecosystem surveys leads torecommendations that funnel intofull environmental assessmentreports. She also does projectmanagement with clients whereher team’s survey work leads torecommendations on eliminatinginvasive plants and replacing themwith native flora, as well asprotecting species at risk.Assisting with the organizationof a yearly park or waterfrontclean up in Vancouver is one ofGoodrich’s favourite activities. Shespreads the word internally toencourage a group of GHDemployees to take part, and themunicipality provides anynecessary equipment. “It’s anopportunity to interact with localpeople who are really pleased tosee us out there,” she says.As Western Canada regionalchampion, Goodrich meetsvirtually with other GHDchampions across North Americato learn and share decarbonization strategies. She leads a teamwith members in Calgary andEdmonton to carry out regionalwaste audits and recently workedon a plan to update vehicle fleetsfor each office. “We had to find abalance, choosing vehicles that aresustainable but safe for fieldworkin the middle of nowhere,” shesays.Goodrich is proud of wastereduction efforts in the Vancouveroffice.
