Prayers ofInterceiо
How often do we find good news in the newspaper,
on television or other devices that keep us up to
date – rarely? We don’t often notice the good news.
Make us more aware of successes, generous acts,
and people celebrating outbreaks of peace, and in
our own experience the steady procession of good
things through our lives.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
We pray for God’s world with its human challenges.
For Israel, the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Iran, Ukraine.
We pray for a solution with lasting peace.
Father, the news hurts. Or it should. Too easily it
becomes sad but ordinary, as more and more of the
detail comes into our vision. Save us from trivialising
the suffering of those people we see daily on our TV
screens. We pray for a solution with lasting peace.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
What other news do you see? That affects the church,
because we are the Church. Save us from blaming
others. Give us confidence in our mandate from you.
Help us to speak with passion and clarity about issues
that affect the social and spiritual health of the nation.
We pray for the difficulties in our church today. Give
us courage in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
We read and see people with illnesses and
bereavement that make the news, those in the
forefront are not immune but have to bear the
publicity which can be an extra burden. Every
name is known and precious to you.
We bring our people of the church community to
you naming them silently or out loud on this day for
you to bless them and hold them close…
Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Father we are bombarded with news, good and
bad in all its sources. Help us to be discerning and
prayerful listeners and viewers in the coming week.
We pray for good news to the poor, release to the
captives and recovery to the ill. And to proclaim your
loving presence in the heart of every event through
Jesus Christ Our living Lord.
Amen.
