Participants were encouraged to highlight locally
sourced ingredients, ensuring that diners experienced
the freshest flavors while learning about sustainable
food practices. Local chefs collaborated with the
island’s fishing community to feature delicacies like
conch, lobster, and grouper, while also drawing
attention to the need to manage invasive species like
lionfish, which threaten local ecosystems.
Nikia Wells, Public Relations and Brand Lead for the
GBIRF, reflected on the success of the 2024 festival
and what it meant for Grand Bahama’s culinary
future. "The 2024 festival was a huge success in part
because it brought together so many aspects of our
community—culinary, cultural, and environmental," she
said. "It was inspiring to see how our chefs not only
embraced local ingredients but also found ways to
make the dining experience both educational and
exciting. We're excited to continue building on that
momentum with the 2025 event."
One of the highlights of the 2024 festival was the
launch event, A Taste of Grand Bahama, held at the
Port Lucaya Marketplace. This family-friendly event
featured live entertainment, food samplings, and a
chance for visitors to interact with local vendors and
artisans. It set the tone for the two-week festival,
providing an immersive experience that reflected the
warmth and energy of Grand Bahama’s culture. "We
were thrilled with the turnout last year and the
opportunity to showcase not just food but also our
island’s music, art, and hospitality," said Britton. "It’s
important for us that the festival captures the full
spirit of Grand Bahama, and A Taste of Grand
Bahama was the perfect way to kick things off."
For the 2025 festival, organizers are promising even
more diverse experiences and expanded participation
from local chefs, restaurants, and vendors. "We’ve
learned from each year how to make the festival even
more engaging," Wells said. "It’s not just about the
food—it’s about creating an atmosphere where
Bahamians and visitors alike can come together,
celebrate, and enjoy everything Grand Bahama has to
offer. We’re expecting the 2025 event to be bigger
and better, with more opportunities for people to get
involved."
