LEGACY
LEGACY
Omeko Glinton shares a selection of photos that showcase his family’s long connection to bonefishing.
The film, which documents Omeko’s life and work, was
not initially conceived as a documentary. "It was just
supposed to be some cool videos," Omeko admits.
However, after a suggestion from the producer’s
mother in 2015, the seed for what would become
Meko was planted. Omeko’s story—one of faith, family,
and resilience—resonated deeply with the film crew,
and what began as a simple project blossomed into
something far more profound. "They thought I had a
unique and powerful story, and they wanted to share
that with the world," Omeko recalls. For him, the film
is more than just a documentary—it’s his testimony, a
living testament to the trials and triumphs that have
shaped his life. "The power of love and unity is key,"
he says, reflecting on the central message of the film.
"God has blessed us with a paradise called the
Bahamas, and we should be good caretakers of what
we were blessed with."
The film’s subtitle, Weather the Storm, encapsulates
the heart of Omeko’s message. His life has not been
...
without its storms—personal and professional—but
through it all, his faith and love for his family and
country have remained unwavering. "Circumstances
and situations should not change us," he insists. "The
storms don’t last always." It’s this resilience that
Omeko hopes audiences will take away from his story:
that no matter the hardships, there is always hope,
and there is always the possibility for renewal.
The Meko film, which has already garnered attention
from viewers across the United States, is poised to
reach a wider audience in the near future. "My goal is
for every Bahamian to be able to see this," Omeko
shares. The film will soon be available through various
platforms, including his website, mekobahamas.com,
where fans can also learn more about the Meko
Experience Lodge and other exciting developments.
For Omeko, it’s not just about building a business—he’s
building a legacy. A legacy that will, he hopes, inspire
future generations to appreciate the importance of
faith, community, and environmental stewardship.
