Grand Life Magazine Winter 23-24 - Flipbook - Page 43
The winter season is often abuzz with the vibrant
energy of gift-giving, festive parties, and hopping
from one event to the next. And, this holiday season,
Grand Bahama has a number of events lined up that
will focus on food, shopping, and even fitness.
Farmers' Markets
Grand Bahama has several popular Farmers' Markets
that take place at the Garden of the Groves, Rand
Nature Center, and near the Ranfurly Circus. Each
event features fresh produce and baked goods, in
addition to a variety of handmade gifts including
candies, jewelry, straw-work, clothing, and ornaments,
as well as freshly harvested honey. These markets
usually occur bi-weekly.
Conchman Triathlon
The Conchman Triathlon will return on November 4th,
2023. This annual event has been around for nearly
40 years and will include a 750m swim, 25km ride,
and 5k run along Taino Beach's stunning turquoise
waters.
Port Lucaya Marketplace
The Port Lucaya Marketplace is home to a variety of
shopping, dining, and entertainment options, inclusive
of fine jewelry stores. If you are looking to enjoy some
shopping, be sure to check out options like Bootleg
Chocolates for handmade confections, stroll through
the straw market on the east and west side for unique
purchases, or take a brief walk over to the UNEXSO
Retail Store to pick up a few gifts for the entire family.
Festival Noel
Each year, the Bahamas National Trust (BNT) hosts
their signature Festival Noel Fundraiser at the Rand
Nature Centre. The annual event features an evening
of wine, art, live entertainment, and food tastings by
local chefs. All funds raised at the event assist the
Bahamas National Trust's mission to preserve the Rand
Nature Centre, Lucayan National Park, and Peterson
Cay National Park.
Festive Feasts
During the holiday season, local resorts offer special
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day themed
dinners, as well as parties to usher in the start of the
new year.
Junkanoo
A visit to Grand Bahama during the holidays would not
be complete without experiencing the annual New
Year's Junkanoo Parade. Junkanoo is a celebration of
Bahamian culture and features vibrant costumes,
pounding goat skin drums, and rhythmic music. The
annual parade is held in downtown Grand Bahama.
The Bahamian Tradition
Each New Year's Eve, many Bahamians attend church
services. This is a long-standing tradition, and all are
welcome to attend.
