SWALE
The borough of Swale is named after The Swale, a
narrow channel that separates mainland Kent from
the Isle of Sheppey. There are four main towns in the
borough, Faversham, Sittingbourne, Sheerness and
Queenborough. The southern half of the borough
largely lies in a Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural
Beauty. Swale had the second highest number of live
births in 2020 behind Medway. Swale has the smallest
BAME community after Dover at 3.4%. Swale is the
second most deprived district in Kent behind Thanet.
The most deprived wards are Sheerness East, Murston
and Leysdown and Warden (IMD, 2019).
