levels of anxiety and serious mental health conditions66
and in the top 30% for mental health conditions. In
Folkestone, rates for anxiety have risen from 2 (on a
scale of 1-10) to 3.5 across the population in the space of

require and people on the brink of poor mental health
have tipped into a higher level of need.
High anxiety factors during lockdown include; loneliness,
relationships, disability, fear of loss, feeling safe at
home, the challenges of home working and home
schooling and work sustainability throughout the
pandemic.
Jon Wilson, Chief Executive said: “The area we
cover is one of the most rural areas in Kent
and has a significantly higher than average
population of over 55s. We support a rural
population scattered across 70 square miles,
with very few community facilities and poor

Jennifer, a service user said: “I’ve been coming
to the centre for quite a few years. I started
coming when I had my stroke. I thoroughly enjoy
coming here, and get upset when I can’t come. I
have made quite a few friends. I come in by the
minibus they provide and they take me home
again and kick me out at my door. I wouldn’t be
without it, it’s really lovely.”
Pat, a service user said: “I’ve been coming here
for the last four years, I come twice a week and if
I didn’t have this, I wouldn’t see anyone. So, it’s a
lifesaver this place.”
