Council appoints new assistant director
of development and investment
• In advance of CSSC’s
National Football Festival at
St George’s Park in
November, CSSC hosted a
football training session for
all members and non
members to hone their skills
in London’s Battersea Park.
• Chelsea and England
Women’s defender Niamh
Charles attended the session
to provide attendees with
tips and tricks as they begin
their training for Festival.
• CSSC (Civil Service Sports
Council) is a not-for-profit
membership organisation
that supports the mental,
physical, and financial
wellbeing of its members,
helping them take care of
themselves, their friends,
and families.
Chelsea and England
Women’s star Niamh
Charles recently led a
football training session
with public sector and
Civil Service workers
at Battersea Park’s All
Weather Sports Ground with
CSSC.
Charles’ visit forms part of CSSC’s
ongoing work to increase awareness
and participation in the women’s
game, and encourage public sector
works to be active and social outside
of work by coming together to create
teams and make memories together.
The Chelsea left-back spent time
with 13 participants leading training
drills, talking about the growth of the
women’s game and looking ahead to
the upcoming season.
Speaking at the event, she said:
“Football has given me lifelong
memories, and I love helping
others experience the same while
contributing to the growth of the
sport. Being part of CSSC’s efforts to
provide people with the opportunity
to learn and grow through football is
incredibly rewarding.”
In 2023, CSSC hosted their
inaugural first 5-a-side national
football at England’s St George’s
Park where 18 women’s teams went
head-to-head, with the Royal Navy
winning the Duchess of Gloucester
trophy.
Speaking about the CSSC
Football Festival, Matt Bazeley OBE,
CSSC Chief Executive said: “After
the success of last year’s football
festival which saw 18 teams and
more than 150 women step onto
the iconic St George’s Park pitch,
we want to continue to grow and
enhance our football offering to
members. This training session is a
fantastic way to boost morale and
bring people together as we build up
to this year’s event at St George’s
Park and having a player of Niamh
Charles’ calibre in attendance is a
great way to do so.”
“As a founding member of the
FA we want to continue our long
tradition of growth in the game of
football and we’re looking forward
to once again bringing together
men’s and women’s public sector
football teams from across the UK in
November at St George’s Park.”
This year’s annual football festival
will return to St George’s Park on
22 November with spaces still
available for the Women’s 5-a-side
tournament. Teams can sign up by
visiting the CSSC website.
Eden Homes powers ahead with 150 new
homes scheduled for construction between
now and 2026
CEO calls for Scottish Government to address the housing emergency by green lighting
more housebuilding starts
Edison Capital’s Eden
Homes is set to build over
150 new homes across
Scotland’s west central belt
with a gross development
value (GDV) of £64 million
over the next two years. It
is already underway with 53
units.
Eden Homes (Scotland) Limited is
the housebuilding arm of Edison
Capital, the Ayrshire-headquartered
private family investment office
with interests in construction,
property, renewables, healthcare,
housebuilding, hotels and hospitality
and sport.
The company, which is opening a
Manchester office soon, is actively
seeking land for further housing
developments throughout Scotland
and is set to announce a further
36-home building project in West
Lothian which, with a £19m GDV,
will be its biggest development to
date.
Calum Melville, CEO of Edison
Capital said: “At Eden Homes,
supported by Principal Building,
our aim is to achieve the highest
standards of quality build on every
home we deliver.
“We are in a challenging market
and moving forward in spite of
the difficulties driven in large
part by Scottish Government
legislation which has dismayed
and discouraged the housebuilding
industry.
“Like many other leaders in
the sector, I am hopeful that the
Housing (Scotland) Bill, put before
Parliament in March this year, will
be revised in a number of areas
including plans for rent controls.
“There is a housing emergency
throughout Scotland and a crystalclear requirement for more homes
for families, couples, single people
and students, that the authorities at
national level appear incapable of
fully appreciating.”
Edison Capital’s construction
arm, Principal Building is the
main contractor, developing the
Eden Homes projects as part of a
multi-year £50 million agreement.
Current developments range
across South Ayrshire, East
Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and South
Lanarkshire.
Neil Crombie, Managing Director
of Principal Building said: “We are
delighted to be working with Eden
Homes in delivering much needed
quality homes across the west
central belt of Scotland.”
Eden Homes and Principal
Building, where 33 new, highly
paid jobs have been created this
year, operate from modern facilities
in Langlands Business Park, East
Kilbride, featuring 16,500 square
feet of workshop with 3000 square
feet of office space.
