Good in
Multiple Ways
Gitte Nestel started working at Glad Food under the leadership of Søren Gericke, and today she
teaches catering at Glad’s vocational school in Copenhagen.
“I enjoy working alongside the pupils, watching their happiness and pride when having completed a dish from start to finish. They simply grow two metres, and this is exactly what it’s all about,”
says Gitte Nestel.
Kitchen assistant Thomas Dan, for one, has grown and developed immensely while training and
working in the kitchen. Thomas was the young man who started out staring at the wall in 1999.
“I really enjoy going to work at the kitchen every day, and I have learnt many different things, be
it operating the dishwasher, cutting greens, peeling potatoes or whatever else,” says Thomas Dan.
Glad Food is a success in many ways; during the last 12 years it has given meaningful employment to youth with special needs; it has developed from being a small lunch scheme for 50 people
into a business with an annual turn-over of app. 17 mill. DKK (2.3 mill.€). New initiatives at Glad Food,
facility and service, have been on offer since 2018. All this is overseen by department director Søren
Sjørslev, who joined Glad in 2017 with a history in more traditional companies, i.a. ISS. To him Glad is
an entirely new kind of business, which is highly appealing to him.
“I am proud to work in an organisation, a foundation, of only 20 years, which promotes freedom
of expression and inclusion in the labour market and is actually successful. And as I hear, see and
read in the media, we are highly successful compared to other colleagues out there. We are simply
successful. In this I take great pride!” says Søren Sjørslev.
