MAKING INDIANA HIGH SCHOOLS
MORE CAREER-CENTERED
House Bill 1002, a priority bill for the House GOP
caucus and the leading high school reform
measure, expands work-based learning in Indiana
high schools, like apprenticeships and internships.
The Republican-backed plan will graduate Hoosier
students who are better prepared for the workforce
which will in turn increase the likelihood they will
stay in Indiana.
The skills gap between
Hoosiers and employers
must be narrowed.
Chuck Goodrich
State Representative
& Bill Author
“You’ll see throughout the bill the idea of bringing
our schools, our students and our businesses
together. That’s the heart around the bill,” Goodrich
said before the Senate education committee last
week. “Hoosiers need a credential beyond a high
school diploma, like a certification or degree,
to succeed and thrive in the economy and the
workforce. Giving students hands-on, applied
learning opportunities and the ability to earn a
credential before graduation is a game changer,
not only for the student, not only for the family, but
for Indiana.”
