Course Outline
Are you interested in your own health and well-being? Are you interested in the health and well-being of
your family and friends? If you enjoy working with people and wish to develop an understanding of health
and care of all age ranges, then you will enjoy this course.
Pupils will study units on the needs of people in health and social care sector. This will include effective
communication, healthy living, growth and development and life events.
Examination Requirements
120 Guided Learning Hours are to be completed over two years. These will be assessed by two internal
controlled assessments in the form of PSA coursework tasks set and completed at different windows
throughout the course and finishes with an external exam at the end of Year 11.
This course is a vocational one and pupils will assume the role of workers within the Health & Social care
sector. They may be required to meet, visit and interview professionals to gain first-hand experience. This
course requires pupils to take responsibility for deciding how to plan, complete and evaluate their work.
Core units:

Component 1: Human lifespan development (PSA worth 30% of final grade)
•
Component 2: Heath and social care values (PSA worth 30% of final grade)
•
Component 3: Healthy Living (External Exam worth 40% of final grade)
Future Pathways
Future pathways include further study at Level 3, for example A Level, and possible progression to university
or apprenticeship. There are many employment opportunities within the Health and Care sector.
