Course Outline
This course will suit students with good listening and comprehension, as well as good basic skills in maths
and writing. The course will enable students to:
•
know and understand business concepts, business terminology, business objectives, the integrated
nature of business activity and the impact of business on individuals and wider society
•
apply knowledge and understanding to contemporary business issues and to different types and
sizes of businesses in local, national and global contexts
•
develop as enterprising individuals with the ability to think commercially and creatively to
demonstrate business acumen, and draw on evidence to make informed business decisions and
solve business problems
•
develop as critical and reflective thinking and skills of enquiry
•
investigate and analyse real business opportunities and issues to construct well-argued, wellevidenced, balanced and structured arguments, demonstrating their depth and breadth and
understanding of business
•
develop and apply quantitative skills relevant to business, including using and interpreting data.
Paper 1: Influences of operations and HRM on business activity

1 hour 45-minute written exam - 50% of the marks - 90 marks - Externally assessed
•
Section A has multiple choice questions and short answer questions worth 20 marks.
•
Section B has one case study/data response stimuli with questions worth approximately 34 marks.
•
Section C has one case study/data response stimuli with questions worth approximately 36 marks.
