Board and Syllabus: AQA GCSE Combined Science Trilogy or AQA GCSE Biology / Chemistry / Physics
Course Outline
Most pupils will study towards two GCSEs in Combined Science Trilogy. Some pupils will have an opportunity
to study separate GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Entry for separate sciences is conditional on being
in the blue pathway top set in year 11.
Pupils in the blue pathway top set in year 11 will be given the opportunity to continue being taught and
examined on the separate science syllabus. Pupils will study towards achieving three GCSEs (one in each
subject). This work will be in additional depth to subject matter previously taught.

The three units are currently assessed by two 1 hour 15-minute
exams each. There will also be a practical science assessment
within these exams where pupils will be questioned on the
subject knowledge they have gained in practical sessions
Separate Sciences – Biology, Chemistry and Physics
