OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and EU Ecolabel certified.
Animal welfare
To ensure high quality wool fibres Gabriel only uses wool from
New Zealand, where the sheep are well cared for and roam
freely outdoors. As the sheep are important suppliers of raw
material for our fabric production, they must be treated well.
Gabriel sets high standards for the quality of the wool and
consequently only cooperates with suppliers who are committed to the welfare of their animals and employees. Wool
used for Gabriel fabrics complies with EU Ecolabel requirements, which, for example, means that there are restrictions
on the use of pesticides.
New Zealand has some of the highest animal welfare standards and has integrated the Five Freedoms for animals into
their animal welfare legislation. The Five Freedoms affirm
animals’ right to a decent life and recognise that animals are
able to feel pain.
The Five Freedoms for animals are:
• Freedom from hunger, thirst, and malnutrition
• Freedom from discomfort
• Freedom from pain, injury, and disease
• Freedom from fear and distress
• Freedom to express normal behaviour
