BIRGITTE
MY EXPERTISE OPENED DOORS
Frode Laursen is a company driven by facts and
data. Many of these figures come from Birgie
Enevoldsen and the employees in her Business
Controlling department.
When Birgie first stepped into the office in
Vien in 2002, she was the first of her kind.
“I was hired as a controller, a job title that
had never existed in Frode Laursen. Back then,
Thorkil and a sales director were the only ones
who looked at the commercial angle out to the
customers, and they sat down and calculated
the prices themselves. What should a customer
pay to get a lot of goods transported from A to
B and to have the pallets at one of our logistics
centres?”
She was well received despite being newly
employed in an unfamiliar position at Frode
Laursen.
“This industry can sometimes have a tone
that’s a bit direct, but my role was helped along
the way by the executive board saying, ‘We need
to focus on this, and you need to listen.’ They
opened the door for me, but I managed to keep
it ajar myself and maintain the dialogue.”
CHOSE TO DROP HR
Initially, Birgie’s tasks also included HR. With
Thorkil, she prepared profiles of employees
who could be a good fit for Frode Laursen and
participated in job interviews.
However, she had to choose
between HR and the controller
path and decided to go in the latter direction. Several more staff
were hired and Birgie is now
Director of Business Controlling.
“I’m the manager of 20 employees, and that’s 20 specialists.
Some of them are super-sharp
when it comes to key figures in
logistics. Others specialise in the
Road divisions. Then there is
the Pricing department, which
calculates prices with the commercial KAMs. It’s great when
the commercial KAM comes back and says that
they’ve succeeded in geing a customer we’ve
spent hours or even days on.”
FIRST WOMAN IN SENIOR MANAGEMENT
Birgie was Frode Laursen’s first number
cruncher. She has also been a pioneer in other
areas. She was the first woman to join the senior
management team. In this context, too, however, she felt well received by her male colleagues.
“I’ve been received positively because I
brought some expertise and am on top of my
game. Frode Laursen has always had its roots
in being fact-based, and I could contribute to
that.”
