JUNE
I’M SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF FRODE
LAURSEN’S HUGE MOTOR
a trainee. She had just returned from a trip
around the world and wanted to start working.
“I wanted office work. Frode Laursen
was looking for trainees in different places
in the organisation, and I sent a broad-based
application. They could see that I was suitable
for something with customer contact, so I was
hired to take care of customer service for the
logistics centres, the 3PL customers.”
TRUCK DRIVING IS IN THE BLOOD
When June L. Hertz looks at Frode Laursen
from above; she sees a huge machine with many
wheels. The machine runs steadily and reliably.
“It’s built around a fundamental motor,
which is our standards. As long as we all stick to
them, we all do what we’re good at, and operations and finances work together.”
June’s place in the machine is in customer
service. She joined Frode Laursen in 2002 as
68
Logistics and Frode Laursen were not unknown
quantities for June. Her grandfather drove
long-distance trucks while she was growing up,
and her uncle worked for Frode Laursen.
When she started as a trainee the company
was very much a man’s world, with the kind of
jargon that characterised this type of workplace,
at least back then.
“It’s evolved a lot since I was hired, but back
then I worked with many men who weren’t
afraid to speak their mind, and I appreciated
that. You called a spade a spade. I also liked
being here because I was given satisfying jobs
right from the start, and there was a lot of responsibility. I became part of operations and got
my own customers in line with all the others.
That was great.”
