MARKUS
I MAKE SURE THAT THE FLEET
IS CLEAN AND IN ORDER
When Markus Schubert discovered that his
employer, the logistics company Nielsen &
Sörensen in Flensburg, was in trouble in 2009,
he became somewhat concerned.
“Nielsen & Sörensen was a big company
here in the area. I thought it might not be easy
to find someone who could take over and continue working with the big warehouse, a large
vehicle fleet and a lot of people.”
Markus was hired by Nielsen & Sörensen as
a truck driver in 1997 and drove for them until
2004, when he decided to try something new.
At the start of 2007, he got a call from one of
his old bosses, and they agreed that he would
return to Nielsen & Sörensen.
“For a couple of months, I was back driving
trucks again. At the time, the company had
many walking floor trailers and silo trailers,
and they needed someone to keep the trucks
and trailers clean and in order. Was everything
in place for them to load and unload the goods
safely? It was my job to take care of it.”
Over time, Markus became responsible for
other types of trailers and eventually for the
entire fleet.
THE SAME JOB, MORE OR LESS
When Frode Laursen took over Nielsen &
Sörensen in 2010, the employees of the German
Wienberger Weg, Flensburg
company experienced a change from being
employed in a large local company to working
for a smaller part of a bigger group. However,
the change did not have much impact on Markus and his job.
“It’s virtually the same. On a normal working day, I start by checking what trucks and
trailers we have at the different locations here
in Flensburg. For example, we might need some
equipment for an inspection or in the workshop. We have our own workshop, which takes
care of around 30 per cent of the work. The rest
we send out to workshops out in the city.”
