METTE
I NEED TO SEE, FEEL AND HEAR
WHAT’S GOING ON ON THE FLOOR
Mee Bjerrum
Personnel coordinator
Mee Bjerrum from
the logistics centre in
Jyderup is actually a
trained chef, but working hours in the restaurant industry didn’t fit
so well alongside young
children and a husband
who drove a truck, so
she started looking for
something else.
“My father-in-law
mentioned that there
might be something
at Frode Laursen, so I
applied and in 2006 I
started as a packer in
co-pack, where displays
are packed for stores. It
was a whole new world.
I ached in all kinds of places because I was using
other muscle groups than I did as a chef, and
because it was piece rates, the work pace was
high.”
Mee got used to the new job, which she
soon enjoyed.
“I joined a group of good colleagues. You
know what each other is doing and learn to
38
read each other. There’s interaction among colleagues, which creates a close relationship with
the workplace. The packing manager aends to
allocating tasks and ordering goods, but who
does what within the groups is actually up to
them.”
During the 13 years that Mee worked in copack, she also tried her hand at other locations
in the warehouse. She got a forkli licence and
later on even an HGV licence.
“It was more for my own interest. It’s great
to get to know a different world and get a beer
understanding of what the drivers are talking
about.”
YEAH, RIGHT
At the beginning of 2020, Mee’s boss tapped
her on the shoulder and said he thought she
could be the new personnel coordinator.
“I said, ‘Yeah, right boss.’ It wasn’t something I’d considered at all, but he convinced me
and in March 2020 I started my new job.”
In March 2020, something else also began.
The coronavirus pandemic broke out and Mee
had to work hard coordinating the workforce.
“We were really busy during Covid because
there were a lot of goods from our brands in
people’s shopping baskets. At the same time,
