KENNETH
NEVER A CUSTOMER WHO WASN’T SATISFIED
Kenneth Jensen
Before Frode Laursen acquired its logistics centre in
Jyderup, there were already
customers on Zealand wanting a warehouse solution for
their goods. Kenneth Jensen
was one of the employees
who solved the challenge.
“They called and said, ‘We
can’t manage here in our own
warehouse. Can you store five
loads?’ They knew we could
solve the problem. We picked
up the goods and found a
place to put them. At one
point, we had seven warehouses around Zealand. Each
time there was a dispatch, the
drivers had to drive around
and pick up pallets from the
various locations. It was hard
work.”
In 2000, Frode Laursen
bought the old NKT buildings
in Jyderup, opened its Zealand logistics centre
and Kenneth Jensen was appointed warehouse
manager.
Kenneth originally started as a driver for an
external haulier.
“Thorkil came and said I may as well drive
for him, so I joined Frode Laursen in 1990. That
36
was when we would set the alarm because we
knew we had to get up the next morning, but
we didn’t know when we would get home.”
In 1994, Kenneth was asked if he could
replace a dispatcher who had gone on sick leave
but never returned. It was during this time
that he found creative solutions to customers’
storage space challenges.
TALK A COW OUT OF A CLOVER FIELD
The number of customers grew rapidly, both
on Zealand and at Frode Laursen in general.
In Kenneth’s opinion, Thorkil Andersen’s
skills as a salesperson are part of the explanation.
“He can talk a cow out of a clover field and
convince customers that we could fulfil their
wishes. Then we had to find out how to do it,
but in all our years in warehousing, we’ve never
had a customer who wasn’t satisfied.”
Kenneth has always had close contact
with Thorkil. If he needed a new forkli or
something else in the warehouse, he called
his boss directly and asked. Once there was no
answer, even though Kenneth needed to make a
decision.
“Then I wrote to him, ‘If you don’t reply
within ten minutes, I’ll have to manage your
money.’ That hit home. Two seconds later, he
called.”
