THOMAS
WE FIGURE THINGS OUT
Thomas Andersen
Even though in 2023 most communication takes place electronically,
the days have not yet gone for a
good old physical meeting over a
cup of coffee.
That’s why team leader Thomas
Andersen from Road DK regularly
goes out and drinks a cup of coffee
with his customers.
“It can be difficult to interpret
the tone of an email. A single word
can change things completely. And
vice versa, you can stop a lot of
conflicts before they even start if you sit down
opposite each other.”
Looking a person in the eye and geing to
know each other also makes it easier to handle
the stressful situations that can arise at any time.
“For example, a customer might call on
a bank holiday and say their orders have got
messed up, so lots of extra orders will be arriving
– and then we figure things out. They like to be
able to call if they’ve screwed things up and know
that despite this, we’ll manage to sort it out.”
12 YEARS AS A DRIVER
In January 2024, it will be 30 years since
Thomas started as an apprentice driver at Frode
Laursen. For the first three months he worked
at the warehouse as he hadn’t got his driving
24
FRoDe LAURsen’s BIGGest DePARtMent
licence yet, but aer that he was on the road
right up until 2006.
“It was a lot of hours. I was home late and up
early, so when the children came along, I came
into the office to work.”
Back then, the dispatch office was staffed 24
hours a day. Thomas joined the night shi and
organised the journeys for the trucks that le
Vien. He also received the goods that came back
during the evening and night and ensured they
were ready to be transported out again. Altogether, he worked night shis for about ten years.
“Aer a while, the night shis became a bit
of a hassle, and I fortunately had the opportunity to work during the day.”
REGULARLY BEHIND THE WHEEL
In his current job as team leader at Road DK,
Thomas is responsible for retail customers such
as Dagrofa, Rema 1000 and Salling Group, for
whom Frode Laursen transports goods directly
from the customer’s warehouse to their stores.
Even though it’s been a few years since he
stopped driving, he still regularly gets behind
the wheel.
“I still like driving trucks. A couple of times
a year, I go for a ride in the truck to keep my
driving licence up to date and see what’s going
on out there. A lot of new things are happening,
both with the trucks and out at the customers.”
