ALLAN
THE CAMARADERIE IS ONE OF A KIND
Allan Munkholm
The idea that Allan Munkholm
would get a job in transport and
logistics has always been there
staring him in the face. He comes
from a family of hauliers, and it
was a natural choice for him to
apply for an apprenticeship with
Frode Laursen.
Initially, however, he didn’t
get a place and he worked for
the logistics company Freja for
10 years instead. In 2017, he
was given the opportunity to
join Frode Laursen as division
manager in the Continent division. Following
an organisational shake-up, he was offered his
current position as COO, Road DK.
staff at the terminals. The camaraderie is one of
a kind.”
The drivers spend most of their working
hours on the road, which presents particular
challenges for their managers.
“If you walk around the office or the
terminal, it’s easy to see if a colleague seems
a bit upset, so you can do something about it.
But a driver can face all types of problems and
challenges away in their cab without anyone
noticing. We have an HR department and
one of their most important jobs is to travel
between our sites and meet the drivers. They
also have many chats with the drivers by phone
and online.”

A large proportion of Frode Laursen’s drivers are
over 55. The company is already experiencing
challenges in recruiting new drivers, and over
the next 5 to 10 years, the problem looks set to
grow. Frode Laursen trains their new drivers,
five per cent of the driver staff are apprentices,
and in this traditionally male profession, the
company has managed to aract two female
apprentices.
“Our current drivers are good ambassadors
when recruiting new ones. Aer all, they know
our values and can communicate them: That we
are a decent company that pays its employees
Around 400 employees work at Road DK: office
workers, drivers and staff at the terminals in
Tølløse and Vien. In addition, Road DK has
approx. 200 vehicles driven by external hauliers
associated.
“I have great respect for them all. If someone
is knee-deep in work tasks, we come together
and help each other out in a way that I’ve not
seen in other industries. It’s also a big part of
our culture at Frode Laursen. This goes for the
hauliers, the drivers, the office staff and our
