KJELD
THE STORES MUST HAVE THEIR GOODS
Kjeld A Nielsen
Kjeld A. Nielsen edges his
large Scania truck into the
parking space next to the
small convenience store
on Kornblomstvej in Denmark’s fourth-largest city,
Aalborg. Before leaving the
cab, he puts on his Frode
Laursen cap.
“When it’s cold, I feel
best when I’m wearing the
cap.”
Using the pallet truck,
Kjeld pulls a pallet of
mixed Haribo products out
of the trailer, lis it down
and drives it into the store’s small backroom. He
finds a space between boxes of so drinks and
crisps, picks up a return pallet, puts the pallet
truck away back in the trailer and sits back in
the driver’s seat. Aer six minutes, he drives off
again back through the houses.
FIVE YEARS IN AALBORG
Kjeld has been doing the Aalborg trip for five
years. Along the way, he complains a bit about
the city. More one-way streets, narrowing of
lanes and roadworks have made Aalborg a more
difficult city to navigate, but Kjeld gets there. He
can thank his experience for that.

FRoDe LAURsen’s BIGGest DePARtMent
His father was also a truck driver, and Kjeld
wanted to follow in his footsteps, but instead
got a job at an engineering works.
“That was also exciting, but when the sunny
summer months came around, I thought, ‘This
isn’t where I’m meant to be.’”
His place was behind the wheel, and he has
been siing there ever since – most of his years in
a truck with the Frode Laursen logo on the side.
BUMPS ALONG THE WAY
At Meny in Kennedy Arkaden, Kjeld usually
reverses all the way up to the rear entrance, but
today two parked vehicles are blocking the way.
So he parks some distance away and drives the
pallets a bit further to the store. There are more
hitches later on the route. At the Spar convenience store in Vejgaard, there’s another parked
vehicle, but the driver has parked his truck too
far away from the ramp, so he can’t get over
with the pallet truck.
“He’s new to the job,” Kjeld shakes his head
slightly, gets his packed lunch out and leans
back while he eats a sandwich. He doesn’t stress
about the small bumps along the way.
FREE TIME SPENT ON TWO WHEELS
Finally, Kjeld continues his journey through
Aalborg. Along the way, he says hello to ‘the
