structures in the visual realm. In Fabienne Verdier’s art, it manifests not
only in the forms she crafts but also in their material essence. Cracks in
the paint produce a mesh of veins like sea inlets, which, as they percolate into the landscape, develop a delta with multiple branches. Verticality
thus becomes a hallmark of the artist’s horizon, evident in her subsequent
work. For the exhibition in London, she has created a sublime waterfall on
a shimmering blue ground, the culmination of years of exploration and
refinement. Isn’t the waterfall the quintessential expression of flow, the
foundational principle of Chinese painting from which Fabienne Verdier’s
creativity flows? And it is precisely on an altarpiece that this miracle has
taken place. The viewer’s gaze is opened to the infinity of its movement.
