AT our May meeting, Tasman
Council approved a budget that
will see signi昀cant improvements to community infrastructure across our municipality
this coming year.
A range of facilities across
our municipality will benefit from refurbishment and
upgrades as part of the 202425 budget. $1.5 million for road
improvements is also included
for this coming 昀nancial year.
This includes the next phase
of the Saltwater River Road
landslip remediation.
In Murdunna we will see carpark sealing at the deep-water
jetty, upgrades to the Grave
Island footpath and safety
improvements at the junction
of Sommers Bay and Duck
Creek Roads.
At Eaglehawk Neck, Council
will be upgrading the pedestrian zone at the Pirates Bay
Drive look out. Council will
also be working with ENACT
to progress the development
of stage three of the Teralina
Track.
A range of projects will be
carried out in Taranna. These
include a full renovation of the
public toilet block, re昀nishing of the 昀oor of the Taranna
Community Centre and refurbishing the basketball and tennis courts.
The council will also be

installing heating in the Saltwater River Hall.
The Port Arthur Sports
Ground will also be a focus of
projects this coming year. Work
will be carried out to improve
the oval surface, as well as renovations to the club rooms.
The Premaydena Recreation
ground has been in need of
some attention and this coming year drainage work will be
undertaken to improve the condition of the ground.
This is in addition to the new
cricket pitch which was laid
last month.
Sustainability of operations
is a key responsibility of council and this year there are several new initiatives to take us
in the right direction.
A redevelopment of our
waste transfer station will
commence and we will see the
introduction of a ‘Tip Shop’,
which will also serve as an education centre.
A permanent home for Tasman Men’s Shed will also
be created and new bins will
be put in place to allow for
improved collection and sorting for recycling.
Solar panels will be installed
at our maintenance depot in
Nubeena, along with two publicly available electric vehicle
charging stations.
Tasman emergency services
precinct will receive upgrades,
including work on the SES
building. Tasman Civic Centre will have the 昀oors refurbished and some repairs made.
In Judd Park the toilets will be
improved and some accessible play equipment will be
added. Phase one of the Nubeena-White Beach shared path
will commence this 昀nancial
year. The completed track will
see a connection from Noyes
Road in White Beach back
to Nubeena township. It will
connect through existing paths
right through to Peace Street,
near the hardware store.
We have an ambitious capital project program for this
coming 昀nancial year and I’m
sure all residents will look forward to seeing the results of
this work.
Council would like to
acknowledge the support
received through the election
commitments of our newly
elected State Government, that
will help us to deliver a number of these important projects
throughout the coming year.
I was pleased to attend the
morning teas’ held at the Council Chambers and Huon Care
Nursing Home at the MPS, to
raise funds for the anti-Cancer
Council. Congratulations and
a big thank you to organisers,
Sandra (Council) and Angela
(MPS) and the many individuals who help set up, sell tickets
and supply food for attendees.
Each event was well patronised
and the donations and raf昀e
sales raised valuable funds to
assist in cancer research and
patient care.
Council’s Community Grant
Program will re-open on July
1. If your club or community
organisation has a project that
requires assistance check out
