Finney Vol. 1 - Immutable Journey - Flipbook - Page 60
Returning the coin Mr Shift had given
him to a pocket, Finney felt lost, not
knowing what to do next. He picked a
direction and started walking, making
his way through a thick crowd of people.
Soon, a bright red balloon caught his
eye. Approaching this, Finney found a
garishly dressed clown.
“He got you, didn’t he?” said the clown
as Finney approached.
“Got me?” asked Finney.
“He saw you coming!” said the clown,
pointing at Finney’s new chesta.
“Mwahahaha.”
“You mean Mr Shift?” asked Finney.
“How would you know?”
“Who else but Shift?” asked the clown. “I
saw you before with serious gold on your
chest. Then you went into the refinery
and came out with your hoodie zipped
all of the way up, looking ashamed. Shift
got your gold, didn’t he? I’ve seen it a
thousand times.”
“What do you know, clown?” asked
Finney defensively.
“I know Shift’s got cameras everywhere,”
said the clown. “Even has drones in the
sky. He must’ve seen you with your gold
and figured out how to get you to part
with it.”
“You mean Mr Shift had a plan to steal
my chesta all along?” asked Finney.
“Wheels within wheels, kid,” said the
clown. “I’m Floppy, by the way,” he said,
nudging his tip jar in Finney’s direction.
“Spare a dollar for the joy I bring?”
A hopeless little laugh escaped Finney’s
lips. “First I gave up my little finger,” he

said. “Then I lost my chesta. I came here
to learn about crypto but all everybody
wants to do is take what’s mine!”
“Not my problem,” said Floppy. “Now,
move along so paying audience members
can enjoy my performance.”
“Wow, even the clowns here are mean
jerks,” said Finney, leaving Floppy’s
vicinity.
Continuing on the sidewalk, passing
aggressive beggars and people in
business suits hurrying past everybody
else, Finney eventually found an open
bench and sat down. He was quickly
joined by a young man in athletic garb.
“Hi, I’m Finney,” said Finney, determined
to stay on mission. “I came to Earth to
learn about crypto. Do you know anything
about crypto?”
“I’m all about the crypto,” said the man.
“Forget banks. What do you want to
know?”
“I want to know everything,” said Finney.
“Cool,” said the man. “I’m way into EOS
for the free transactions. WAX, too, mostly
for the NFTs. But I just got into something
called Shift Connect. It’ll make you rich.
Can I give you my referral code?”
“Maybe just tell me about NFTs?” said
Finney.
“Right on,” said the man. “NFTs are nonfungible tokens. Like digital collectibles.
Virtual trading cards. That kind of thing.”
“How do they work?” asked Finney.
“Something to do with metadata,” said
the man. “And provable scarcity. Real
talk? I don’t really know all the details.
