“This FUNdraiser was a perfect combination of passions: helping animals and getting
crafty! From a young age I always had a crayon or marker in my hand, evolving into
a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from UW-Stout in 2011. Since then I’ve spent my
career in design and adopting two dogs into my family along the way. Dusty (HuskyStaffordshire Terrier, 6) and Otto (Shepherd Mix, 2) have been such important figures
in my life - all the joy, frustration, and cuddles.
I chose to capture the vibrant cat portrait in acrylic paints on canvas board. The drytime of acrylics allowed me to add layer upon layer of fur with minimal time in between.
I loved the cat being nestled between the hibiscus flowers, but wanted to brighten and
simplify the background by washing a complimentary leaf-green all over.”
