Florida Independent Living Council
Ø “The Florida Statewide Independent Living Council is committed to promoting a
philosophy of consumer control, peer support, self-help, self-determination, equal
access, and individual and systems advocacy, in order to maximize leadership,
empowerment, independence, productivity and to support full inclusion and integration
of individuals with disabilities into the mainstream of American society. The Council
operates with 11 Governor-appointed members who provide statewide representation,
have a broad range of individuals with disabilities from diverse backgrounds, genders,
and who are knowledgeable about CILs and IL services.”

Florida Rehabilitation Council
Ø “The Florida Rehabilitation Council (FRC) is part of a network of state rehabilitation
councils that were created by the 1992 Amendments to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
The FRC was established to assist the Florida Department of Education (FDOE), Division
of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) in planning and developing statewide rehabilitation
programs and services and promotes high standards and expectations for every area of
services delivery. The council does this by recommending best practices in policies and
process using data driven recommendations and by sharing each council member’s
unique perspective from the constituency they represent. All members are appointed by
the governor with a mandate that individuals with disabilities comprise at least 51% of
council membership.”

Florida Rehabilitation Council for the Blind
Ø “The Florida Rehabilitation Council for the Blind reviews, analyzes & advises on the
policy decisions and evaluates the effectiveness of the Florida Division of Blind Services
to ensure meaningful access to and use of vocational rehabilitation and independent
living programs for Floridians who are blind or visually impaired.”

Information Clearinghouse on Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council
Ø “The Information Clearinghouse on Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council
mandated by Florida Statute 383.141, was created to advise the Department of Health
on establishing and maintaining a clearinghouse of information related to
developmental disabilities on its website. Entitled Bright Expectations, the clearinghouse
provides resources and information on developmental disabilities for pregnant women,
health care providers, parents and families.”
