MATERIAL PROPERTIES AND ADVANTAGES
PVC (polyvinyl-chloride)
Advantages: PVC is very stable and has an extremely good resistance to weather. It does not corrode
and is flame resistant.
Natural Rubber (NR)
Temperature range: -40 to +70 C
Advantages: Good elasticity and mechanical properties. Tear and abrasion resistant, notch toughness and elasticity. Very resistant to compressive set.
Dissadvantages: Medium to low resistance to oil, weather and ozone.
Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer (EPDM)
Temperature range: -50 to +120 C
Advantages: Excellent resistance to weather, aging, ozone, chemicals, hot water and steam. Good
chemical resistance to polar fluids such as acetone and methanol. Outstanding electrical insulation
properties. Low steam permeability, good thermal resistance.
Dissadvantages: Low resistance to aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. Flammable.
Polychloroprene (CR)
Temperature range: -30 to +90 C
Advantages: Good resistance to aging, weather, ozone. Low flammability rating. High resistance to
alternating bending. Medium resistance to oil. Good mechanical properties and elasticity.
Disadvantages: Possiblity of crystallization due to continued low temperature exposure.
Nitrile Rubber (NBR)
Temperature range: -20 to +100 C
Advantages: High resistance to oil and gasoline. High thermal resistance. Good mechanical resistance and good against compressive set.
Disadvantages: Very low weather and ozone resistance. Low elasticity.
