A Human-Centred Approach to Justice
This case illustrates the essential role of neuropsychological assessments in the legal system. By uncovering
the hidden effects of traumatic brain injury, the defence expert witness neuropsychologist provided critical evidence that reshaped the prosecution’s

Mr Simon Clarke
Consultant Paediatric Surgeon

Mr Simon Clarke is a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon, at Chelsea & Westminster
Hospital, London.
Mr Clarke's training took place in London at the globally renowned Great Ormond
Street Hospital (GOSH) as well as at Chelsea and St George's. He was also given the
opportunity to train in Oxford and Hong Kong, giving him an even broader knowledge
of surgical procedures such as minimal access surgery.
Dr Heather Harris
Consultant Radiologist MBBS FRCS FRCR
With over 25 years of experience. He provides first-class surgical expertise for a wide
range of conditions, including hernias (umbilical and inguinal), undescended testicles,
gastrointestinal disorders such as gastro-oesophegal reflux disease (GERD) and
hydrocele.
Dr Heather Juliet Harris is a Consultant Radiologist based in Chesterfield.
She has an extensive knowledge of general radiology and radiology practice including
policies, procedures, IR(ME)R, IRR 17, and day to day issues working in a radiology
department in a District General Hospital. Her specialty is Clinical Radiology.
Subspecialty areas of interest are all areas of gastrointestinal radiology, general
radiology and acute imaging. She has experience of working for an outsource
radiology reporting company from 2014 - 2019. Dr Harris is also a Radiology
Technical Expert for UKAS, assessing for the Quality Standard for Imaging and
BS70000.
He is highly skilled in surgical procedures such as minimal access surgery (keyhole
surgery), circumcision, neonatal surgery, emergency children’s surgery, appendicitis,
laparoscopy and endoscopy. In fact, from 2018 to present, he has been the president of
the British Association of Paediatric Endoscopic Surgeons (BAPES).
Mr Clarke undertakes cases mostly within the medico-legal report field. He has acted
on behalf of numerous medicolegal clients on a wide range of cases across England and
Northern Ireland.Undertaking between 1-3 cases per year with a 70:30 split ratio of
Plaintiff : Defendant.
Dr Harris has undertaken medico legal worksince 2020 and has written over
150 reports and attended 25 case conference calls. She has attended the coroners
court as an expert witness as well representing her department on a number of
occasions to present evidence or a radiology overview of a case. She has considerable
experience of writing reports for claims, complaints and the coroner and always
provides an impartial and independent view based on the facts.
Mr Clarke has completed 13 medico-legal reports between 2017-2024. He has also
assisted the General Medical Council in a fitness to practice review in 2020 and, has
attended two meetings of Liability Expert prior to possible court proceedings.
He also participates in the training of future surgeons as an honorary senior lecturer at
Imperial College London. He is widely published and undertakes research projects.
