TOUCHDOWN!BEHIND THE SCENES OF A WINNING EDUCATIONAL VISIT(AND WHAT IT TOOK TO PULL IT OFF!)Children from Alderman RIchard Hallam Primary School had an unforgettableday as guests of the NFL American Football Association. EVC Wayne Holder looksback on the experience and offers advice for EVCs and trip leaders for your visits.Picture the scene: 83,500 fans, the English NationalStadium Wembley, a raucous atmosphere – this isa potential once in a lifetime opportunity. We werefortunate enough to take some of our students notonly to watch an NFL game at Wembley but to actas flag bearers for the teams and play on the pitchduring the half time interval!A natural link with our sports curriculumIn the months before the visit, we had been workingwith the NFL to deliver American Football in ourschool. This visit to the stadium allowed the pupilsto watch a game first hand and to experience theatmosphere of professional sports. It enabled pupilsto build on what they had been learning in their P.E.lessons and was a great way to share that with otherchildren across the year group. It helped them to seethe opportunities that could come from playing thesport and provided a forum for talking about theirown experience of American Football and what itmeans to them.12Pupils on the Wembley Pitch flag bearing as teams got ready to play
