Process of ad hoc digital adoption willundoubtedly continue, but for real progress indigital EIA more coordinated and dedicatedsystems will need to be developed, which takesmore time, planning and investment.- Use of Digital Technology vs Digital Systems. It is easier to identify specific advances intechnology and bolt these on to existing systemsto drive performance improvement; however, more systematic change is often needed to getmore substantive improvement in effectivenessand efficiency. Nigeria’s development of digitalEIA approaches appears to be currently drivenby the adoption of existing proven technologiesto deliver specific improvements – such as theuse of drones in EIA practice and the submissionof EIA Reports on memory sticks. This processof ad hoc digital adoption will undoubtedlycontinue, but for real progress in digital EIAmore coordinated and dedicated systems willneed to be developed, which takes more time, planning and investment.- Funding – Ultimately the majority of the barriersset out above could be overcome with a clearand on-going source of funding. However, suchfunding – certainly on a substantive basis - doesnot currently exist and will vary depending onwhich parties involved in the Nigerian EIA systemare seeking to invest in digital approaches. Assuch, defining and securing funding sourcesfor the investment in digital systems and widertransformation is a key challenge.Photo: Dakkada Towers, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.Sourced from: https://www.skyscrapercenter.com/building/dakkada-towers/4076122Willend Associates and FothergillTC Ltd – Ambitions, Challenges & Opportunities - Progressing Digital EIA in Nigeria
