Dartmoor is home to diverse
flora and fauna. Birdwatchers
can spot species like buzzards,
peregrine falcons and skylarks.
Sheep, goats and cattle graze
freely, adding to the pastoral
charm of the park. Keep an eye
out for the iconic Dartmoor
ponies too.
The history of Dartmoor
encompasses ancient tales and
intriguing narratives.
The park is a paradise
for walkers and hikers,
with an extensive
network of trails and
footpaths catering to all
levels of expertise.
The park boasts a longdistance trail called The
Dartmoor Way which is
a waymarked 108-mile
circular route around
Dartmoor and offers
breath-taking views of
the surrounding
countryside.
Beyond hiking, Dartmoor
offers a variety of
outdoor activities and
pursuits. Cyclists can
explore the land via the
dedicated cycling
routes, and horse riders
can traverse bridleways.
Additionally, the rivers
and reservoirs provide
opportunities for fishing,
and the park is a
popular destination for
rock climbing and
bouldering enthusiasts.
For those interested in
prehistoric history, there’s
plenty of evidence of Neolithic
settlements dotted around the
landscape. Fernworthy Stone
Circle is one great example of a
Bronze Age relic that still
remains and Grimspound is a
late Bronze Age Settlement
consisting of 24 hut circles.
