If you’re an avid rambler, keen cyclist
or just fancy a brisk walk to blow away
the cobwebs, South Devon makes a
wonderful walking or cycling holiday
destination. There are plenty of coastal
routes and countryside trails to suit all
ages and abilities.
WALKING
Along the entire stretch of the region’s
coastline you will find the South West
Coast Path offering plenty of scenic
walking routes.
The Templer Way is a popular 18 mile
walking route that links Haytor on
Dartmoor and the coastal resort of
Teignmouth, tracing the historic journey
that granite would have made from the
quarries to the docks.

For walking in East Devon, the East Devon
Way is a 40 mile waymarked trail that
traverses across the diverse landscape
and through the East Devon AONB.
CYCLING
Stretching from Dawlish to Exmouth,
the Exe Estuary Trail runs alongside the
picturesque Exe Estuary providing superb
views and an easy level ride, the trail is
also suitable for walking.
Connecting Newton Abbot and Bovey
Tracey you will find the Stover Trail, a
popular traffic free route among both
walkers and cyclists.
In West Devon, the Granite Way is a new
and mostly traffic-free cycle route which
runs through the rural countryside of
Okehampton to Meldon with exceptional
views of Dartmoor.
If you’re looking for a peaceful cycle
route in Mid Devon, the Grand Western
Canal Cycle Route forms part of the West
Country Way which runs from Padstow
to Bristol with sweeping views of the
Blackdown Hills.
