THE DETECTIVES - TEACHER’S GUIDE - Unit 2
(HOTS) Compare and Contrast the three inventions. In what way are they similar and
in what way are they different?
For example:
Invention 3:
The name of the invention. (AlarmPow / any other logical name)
What the invention does. (wakes you up / hits your forehead / hits your
head)
How the invention works. (It has a long arm that hits you.)
Directions for each invention. (1. Set the time you want to wake up; 2. Put
the AlarmPow next to your bed; 3. Hope for the best!)
Why this invention should be the Invention of the Year. (accept all logical
answers)
2. Say:
On a piece of paper or in your notebooks, draw a picture of something
you want to invent.
Use the same topics to describe it.
Answer the questions about your invention in your notebooks.
3. Ask the students to complete the checklist to make sure they didn’t forget
anything.
Now have them present their group’s inventions to the class.
Simpler version: Have the students describe one of the inventions presented in the
book, either MoCa or the Robo-Bouncers. They should follow the same format but
describe a familiar invention.
Use the following rubric to assess the students' work. This is on a 10-point scale.
